Good governance matters more than policy said Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The past performance of the NDA government (a BJP-led multi-party alliance), Modi’s performance as the chief minister of Gujarat and his vision as articulated in election speeches, indicate the focus will be on governance, big infrastructure projects and manufacturing.
Roads – The most Basic Infrastructure
The BJP led NDA government of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee 1999-2004 was credited with building 50% of national highways in just 5 years while the Corrupt Congress led Government took 25 years to build the same network of roads. They ushered in major reforms via telecom policy, allowed FDI into insurance, pushed indirect tax reforms like CENVAT, introduced Bt. Cotton and fast tracked PSU divestments and brought the Indian Balance Sheet to Current Account Surplus.
Gujarat under Mr Modi’s leadership has grown GDP at 10.8%:
The key achievements of the Modi government in Gujarat include uninterrupted power supply to all of its 18,000 villages in just 5 years while the Corrupt Congress took over 15 years to electrify 18,000 Villages. What a Shame!!!
Urbanization and Unlimited Opportunities for Indians
Shri Narendra Modi has a grand vision of urbanisation, manufacturing and export oriented units, making PSUs more professional, skill development for Rural Youth and GST implementation. He also has plans for ambitious projects like inter-linking of rivers (to solve your water problems forever), building 100 smart cities and introducing bullet trains. Clearly the low hanging fruit is the existing and pre-cleared infrastructure projects like DFC, Ultra Mega Power Projects, Road projects.
The Rahul Gandhi led Congress released its own manifesto a couple of days back has not shied away from its ‘reservation and quota’ tactics to serve its political agenda a total oxymoron when the party makes tall claims of Rahul as Young and Dynamic leader yet nurturing the century old Caste Politics.
