Breaking NewsThe Honorable Government of India under the most efficient leadership of Shri Narendra Modi as Prime Minister & Piyush Goel as Power Minister have announced the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana which will ensure Electricity & Power for all Citizens Across the Length & Breadth of country, mainly villages.

The scheme aims to separate agriculture and non-agriculture feeders to improve power supply to agricultural and
non-agricultural consumers in rural areas. It should strengthen power distribution infrastructure in rural areas and help the government reach its goal of being able to provide power 24/7 across the country. This scheme’s objective is to strengthen T&D infrastructure in the urban sector and allow for IT-enabled energy billing (thus reducing pilferage).

In addition to a shortage of supply, poor T&D infrastructure and a large amount of pilferage are other key issues plaguing the power sector. The above schemes should help address some of the issues and thus are a step in the right direction. These announcements, following the recent coal e-auction guidelines indicate that reforming the power sector remains one a key government priority. In our view, easier and assured access to power will help boost the productivity of the manufacturing sector.
