Tata Motors reports robust sales growth in July

Automobile major Tata Motors has reported a splendid sales performance in the month of July 2009. While there was an all-round increase in domestic sales, exports tumbled 33.50% in the month under review.

Sales of passenger cars in the domestic market rose by 17.33% at 17,191 units, as compared to 14,652 units in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal. Of this, the latest entrant in the Tata stable – Nano – notched sales of 2,475 cars. Indica sold 8,563 units, up 14%, sales of Sumo and Safari were steady at 2,638 units while the Indigo family witnessed a 22% decline at 3,499 units in the month under review.

Tata Motors sold 28,408 commercial vehicles in July 2009, up 26.93% over 22,381 units in the year-ago period. Light commercial vehicles segment sales rose 44% to 17,750 vehicles and medium and heavy vehicles segment sales increased 6% to 10,658 units.

On the flip side, exports tumbled 33.58% at 2,455 units from 3,696 units in the same month last year.
