The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) has ordered a probe into the sudden increase in air fare by all airlines on February 9 in a well organized manner.

In the wake of a possible cartelization anticipated by the civil aviation ministry, the decision to initiate scrutiny by the MRTPC comes in. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had written to airlines asking for details of the increases, which more than doubled base fares.

They should also probe theh ike in Local Call tariffs by Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular in Karnataka Circle.
