TRAI mandates issuing bills to CABLE TV customers

Apex body for telecom and broadcasting, TRAI has mandated all the cable operators to issue bills and receipts for the services they provide, put in place a complaint handling mechanism and maintain a slew of technical standards including a six-hour power backup.

TRAI said that these regulations would help improve and maintain quality of cable TV services in non-CAS areas. The regulator has also empowered consumers as that they can initiate legal action against their local cable operators at the district consumer forums on non-adherence to the new regulations.
