The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has recommended cancellation of allotment of plots to six hoteliers for projects related to the Commonwealth Games, 2010. The hotel majors have reportedly opted out on the back of a deepening recession which is expected to result in lower visitor turnout.
DDA sources claimed that the hoteliers did not commence work on the projects even after obtaining necessary clearance for the projects. The government is expected to ask other hotel majors that are involved in the Commonwealth Games project to speed up their projects so as to meet the deadline.
The Games Village is being developed by the DDA to provide accommodation and training facilities to 8,000 athletes and officials during the Games. The tourism ministry is aiming to make available nearly 6,000 rooms during the Games in these new hotels.
