Engineering and construction major Larson & Toubro (L&T) has bagged a contract worth Rs 6,897 crore from Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. (Mahagenco) for 300 × 660 Megawatt (MW) super-critical boiler turbine generator units.
This is one of the single largest Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) orders in India’s power sector, the company said in its filing with the BSE.
The L&T’s scope under the total EPC contract includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of super-critical boilers, Steam Turbine Generators (STGs) and associated auxiliaries besides substantial balance-of-plant equipment and services such as transformers, plant electricals, state-of-the-art Controls and Instrumentation (C&I) system and civil and architectural work.
Mahagenco’s 1980 MW project in Koradi will add about 50 million units to national grid every day once it is commissioned, the filing added.
Advanced super-critical thermal sets from L&T will introduce a new and green era of environment friendly power generation by ensuring higher plant efficiencies and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
L&T witnessed 26% surge in its September, 2009 quarter net profit which stood at Rs 580.40 crore as compared to Rs 460.20 crore for September, 2008 quarter.
