India Post plans to sell agriculture insurance to farmers through post offices in Gujarat. India Post is world’s largest postal service with a massive network of 15,000 post offices. Apart from passport applications, it has also started selling gold coins and offering Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) price quotes to the farmers. Further it also plans to sell movie tickets in cities.
The company is in talks with Delhi-based Agricultural Insurance Company of India (AICI) for offering agriculture insurance products to the farmers. This initiative has already been implemented in Karnataka.
India Post has launched Genie Ease-Ticket service in Gujarat in collaboration with ARM I Solutions. This service is already launched in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In Phase-I, 232 post offices in Gujarat will sell train, bus and air tickets. In Gujarat itself, India Post has network of 9,056 post offices.
