Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) mentioned that it become the only supplier in the world of disc insulators for high voltage transmission projects. The company would supply 420 kN and 320 kN Porcelain disc insulators for 800 kV High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission lines.
The company has taken comprehensive R&D efforts for successfully designing, developing and testing these insulators at STRI, Sweden. STRI is the only internationally credited laboratory equipped for testing of such insulators. Insulators are vital requirements for smooth transmission.
These insulators contain a special material composition to perform consistently under HVDC voltages. They are also required to have different profiles better performance under polluted conditions. The insulators supplied by the company will be utilized in the first-ever + 800 kV HVDC Transmission Line of PowerGrid from Biswanath Chiryaly in the North East to Agra.
