BGR Energy Systems, the EPC company for power projects, has received a turnkey EPC of balance of plant (BOP) contract from Maharashtra Power Generation Corporation (MAHAGENCO) for execution of the 2×500 MW Chandrapur Super Thermal Power Stattion (STPS) expansion project at Chandrapur, Maharashtra. The contract is valued at Rs 1631.80 crore and is expected to be completed in period of 33 months.
This BOP contract includes design, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of all balance of plant mechanical, electrical and civil and structural works for the main plant. The coal-based Chandrapur STPS project has 2340 MW power generation capacity and MAHAGENCO has tied with Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) to finance the project.
Besides BGR Energy Systems, other companies that were competing for the Rs 1632 crore contract were Tata Projects and L&T. This is second consecutive BOP contract from MAHAGENCO. Previously the company received contract for 500 MW Khaperkheda expansion project near Nagpur in 2007.
