Hyderabad-based Soma Enterprise has secured an order worth Rs 199 crore from the Chennai Metro Rail Project.
Besides Soma, various other infrastructure companies like Gammon India, Simplex, L&T and a joint venture of Nagarjuna Construction and CCCL were also included in the race for this project.
As per the deal, Soma Enterprise is required to set up a 4.5 kilometer stretch of the elevated bridge running along the 100 feet inner ring road between Koyambedu and Ashok Nagar. Physical work of the Rs 14,600 crore project officially started with placement of this order.
The Centre gave the formal approval for the project on January 29 and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will soon lay the foundation stone for the proposed project.
Sixty percent of the total estimated cost of the proposed project will be offered by Japan as official development assistance. The balance will be shared equally between the state and central government.
