JSW Steel commissions India’s largest Blast Furnace at Vijayanagar

India’s largest Blast Furnace at JSW Steel Vijayanagar Works is commissioned today, l8 February 2009. Mr P R Jindal, formally commissioned the Blast Furnace in the presence of Mr. Sajjan Jindal, VC & MD, JSW Steel, Mr. Y Siva Sagar Rao, Joint Managing Director & CEO, JSW Steel Vijayanagar Works and several other dignitaries.

This is JSW Steel’s third Blast Furnace at Vijayanagar Works. This Blast Furnace with the size of 4019 cum is one of the most modern furnaces and is the largest in India. It is built with the technology from Siemens VA of UK. The furnace operates with high top pressure (2.5 bar) and high hot blast temperature (1250 deg.C) which ensure maximum coal injection and energy saving. The Furnace has the biggest blowers (40 MW) from Man-Turbo of Switzerland, Top Charging from Paul Wurth of Luxumborg and Critical refractories from Japan form part of this furnace. The furnace is also provided with modern environmental protection systems like Cyclone & Venturi scrubber for Gas cleaning, Cast House and Stock house de dusting systems, Slag granulation system etc. Waste energy is recovered through 11 MW top gas recovery turbines.
