The Indian Automobile Industry volumes for February came in close to January’s strong levels for most segments. Bajaj, Hero Honda and Maruti sales were within 2% from January levels. Tata Motors’ CV volumes grew 7% sequentially.
Maruti Suzuki reports in-line sales for February; domestic sales slightly stronger than anticipated. Maruti reported domestic sales of 84,765 units and exports of 11,885 units for February. Total sales of 96,650.
M&M reported total sales of 38,327 in the domestic market, comprised of 18,280 UVs, 13,140 tractors and 6,907 3-wheelers and LCVs. Tractors declined a larger-than-anticipated 22% from January. 3-wheelers and LCV sales were up 102% yoy on the back of new products such as GIO and Maxximo. UV sales were in line with our expectation of 18,300 units. UV sales were down 10% sequentially and up 24% yoy.
Tata Motors reported total sales of 69,149 vehicles made up of 41,497 commercial vehicles and 27,642 passenger vehicles. Total sales were up 58% yoy and 6% sequentially.
Hero Honda reported sales of 382,096 units, up 16% yoy. Bajaj Auto reported sales of 234,710 two-wheelers and 33,968 3-wheelers for February. Two wheeler sales were up 77% yoy and 1% sequentially. Three-wheeler sales were up 59% yoy and 3% sequentially.
Expect to see some declines in volume for March, specifically on the passenger car side, as some demand could have been brought forward ahead of an anticipated increase in excise duty.
