Soon all government websites will be made accessible to the visually impaired with the Information Technology ministry announcing that all official websites would soon be Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), 2.0 Level 1 compliant
The guidelines set by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), has legislative support in several countries which make it mandatory for creators of web pages to follow the minimum standards for their accessibility.
The government had announced a change in web access guidelines on February 16 making it mandatory for all government websites to become WCAG 2.0 Level 1 compliant after the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) organized a ‘dharna’ at India Gate on World Disability Day (December 03) last year.
